Poputar, the smart guitar with free app for everyone, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo: click here to the dream come true! Join us on 10 November on Zoom, when we will host them at CBN Play and Learn Initiative and, if you founded a Play and Learn startup, apply on F6A to pitch your project with investors.

CBN: In 2016 you joined the Creative Business Network world finals with Populele, a solution enabling everyone to play the Ukulele. Amazingly enough, you’re now set to conquer the world with Poputar, a solution that makes everyone able to play the guitar. What is the secret to replicate and scale?

In the making, the guitar is more or less the same as ukulele (AKA small guitar). Well, for sure it is harder to produce as it has more strings and bigger sizes, etc. We have strong team cooperation including design, supply chain, hardware and software, based on the experience we made Populele, so it is a piece of cake to make Poputar.

CBN: Music education is massively important for any child and student. Unfortunately, the education systems across the world rarely provide students with the tools and competencies needed to enjoy playing music. What is the specific impact you expect from your solution and who is targeting?

First of all, playing guitar is not hard, it allows self-learning. Also, nowadays, everyone has a smartphone and spends most of their spare time on it with games. So the interactive gamification app we made is the key: people are willing to invest one hour per day to enjoy a different and fun way of learning.

People between 16-45 years old, love music, beginners, don’t want to spend too much money and time, geeks are the main target of the products.

Also, we want to expand the market from music to consumer electronics.

CBN: When it comes to music, some think that they miss the gift needed to play and prefer to become music listeners instead of music players. Interestingly enough, “play” in English means both “playing a game” and “playing music”. Should we conclude that music is needed to learn as much as play is?

Yes, it is true. But please note the difference between hobby and profession. Poputar can lead you inside music quickly and teach you basic skills, serve you a fun learning experience. But if you want to become a music expert, you need to go through a more traditional method after Poputar.

China is one of the stronger areas in terms of investments on both education and education technology. Chinese families are deeply interested in enabling their children to be granted a top-level education. Which is the role of music in this landscape, in China and beyond its borders?

In the past decades, music has a relatively smarll market in China, advanced countries in North America and EU have better atmosphere. Because it has nothing to do with career planning in China at that time.

But now, the young people have different understanding than previous generation in China. In 2020s, especailly with the help of high-tech and creative ideas, the new musical instrument products will subvert the traditional music industry.
